With our Spring adult season wrapping up last weekend, it gives us the opportunity to provide some updates from the past few months along with information on upcoming events.
Female Senior Provincials and the Male Maritime Volleyball League Championships both took place this past weekend in Moncton. The events were held between Northrop Frye and Le Sommet. It was a great two days of competition in all three divisions; Division 2 Female, Division 1 Female and Division 1 Male. The UMCS Rafales took the Division 2 championship back to Shippagan defeating the Fireballs (Saint John) 2-0 in the final. The tournament MVP was Marie-Pier Haché (UMCS) and tournament all stars were Janie Lanteigne (UMCS) and Jennifer Bauer (Fireballs). The Spitfires won a three-set thriller over the NB Canada Games Team in the Division 1 championship. The tournament MVP was Paige Paulsen (Spitfires) and tournament all stars were Victoria Eadle (Spitfires) and Sarah Glynn (NB CG). In the first ever Maritime Volleyball League Championship, the Fredericton Reds defeated the Halifax Cobros in three sets. Tournament MVP was Mike Waugh (Reds) and the tournament all-stars were Scott Townsend (Cobros) and Matt Sweet (Reds). We will be sending out a short survey to all team athletes within the next few weeks and we would encourage you to provide us with as much feedback as possible. Thank you for the great season and continuing to help make the senior league so successful.
The next event on our calendar is the Jack Lawson Middle School Cup. The tournament will be held in Moncton and will feature over 100 teams again this year. There are still a few spots available in certain divisions and waitlists have been started for the Female D1 and D2 divisions.
The second annual VNB Beach classic will be held at Parlee beach this summer on June 3rd-4th. For those who are interested, you can register online in the Beach section of our volleyball New Brunswick website. Space is limited so please register ASAP to ensure a spot in the tournament.
Volleyball New Brunswick’s Provincial team tryouts will be held June 9th – Moncton, June 10th– Bathurst and June 11th– Fredericton. The final tryout will be in Fredericton on June 18th. We have altered the format for the high-performance training camp. The camp will be held in Moncton July 23th-27th, and the tournament will follow on July 28th-29th.
Finally, a reminder that the beach volleyball season is only a few weeks away. The Atlantic Beach tour will consist of 10 tournaments this year split between New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. For more information please visit the Beach section of the Volleyball New Brunswick website.
