Each year, Volleyball New Brunswick honours our members through the Hall of Fame and annual awards. We host our annual award gala to recognize the outstanding contributions of Volleyball New Brunswick members.<\/p>\n

Volleyball NB Hall of Fame was established in 1999 to celebrate outstanding achievements of our athletes, coaches, builders, officials, and teams from across our province. We want to honor those who have made a significant impact within our borders as a member of VNB. These individuals will embody the best of our sport by virtue of success, dedication, longevity, and sportsmanship.<\/span><\/p>\n

The VNB Male & Female Athletes of the Year are ideally graduating athletes who participates in our High Performance, Canada Cup, Summer Elite and Canada Games programs. The Male and Female Coach of the Year are two coaches whose club and\/or provincial teams have had significant improvement or success in the past year.<\/span><\/p>\n

The goal of this award is to recognize athletes in our club system\u00a0for on-court and off-court contributions to their team, such as, teamwork, team building, works hard, great attitude, <\/span>inspiring acts of “sportspersonship”<\/b>. The goal is to raise coach engagement in the nomination process and provides an opportunity for representation from our members who may not aspire to play at a high-performance level.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>We all have come across kids in our journeys who we affectionately say, \u201cthat kid is the greatest teammate\u201d or \u201cwhat an amazing kid.\u201d <\/span>Ideally, this award could be awarded to an athlete from our 15U, 14U or triple ball programs.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Canada Games Men\u2019s Indoor Team made New Brunswick proud this year with an incredible 5th place finish at the 2025 Summer Canada Games. Their path was nothing short of remarkable, pushing eventual gold medalists Alberta to a fifth set, falling just 15\u201313, and battling silver medalists Manitoba in a hard-fought four-set match. Before arriving at the Games, they proved themselves on the national stage with a strong 5th place finish at the Canada Cup in St. Catharines. Competing with heart and determination, the boys left us feeling nothing but proud.<\/span><\/p>\n

This team was two years in the making, built on the foundation of a close-knit group of athletes who had grown up playing together, some since the age of three. Their bond was matched by an incredible work ethic and a relentless drive to improve and succeed. Known for their outstanding ball control, they excelled in serve receive and defense, giving them a gritty, never-die attitude on the national stage. That determination paid off as they proudly represented New Brunswick at the 2025 Canada Games, defeating teams from BC and Nova Scotia along the way. Their efforts earned them an incredible 5th place finish in the country\u2014an achievement that speaks to their talent, teamwork, and heart.<\/span><\/p>\n

From the very beginning of their season, this group proved they were a force to be reckoned with. Between September and December, they didn\u2019t drop a single set, and when given the chance to step into an older age division, they rose to the challenge\u2014winning the only U18 tournament they could enter. Their success carried into the new year, dominating tournaments in Nova Scotia with the same undefeated record. But it was at Nationals in Edmonton where the pressure was at its highest. With all eyes on them, they carried the weight of expectations with grace, resilience, and maturity well beyond their years. Their goal was to finish 17th\u2014the highest ranking possible\u2014and they did just that, taking down teams like BC 2 and Alberta 4 and 5 along the way.<\/span><\/p>\n

This summer marked a historic moment for men\u2019s beach volleyball in New Brunswick, led by an exceptional duo. Together, they won their ticket to Saint John\u2019s, Newfoundland at the VNB Canada Games selection tournament, proving themselves as the top U20 team in the province. At the 2025 Canada Games, they carried that momentum onto the national stage, competing with confidence, grit, and pride. Their hard work paid off as they became the first male team in New Brunswick\u2019s beach volleyball history to finish 5th at the Games. This milestone wasn\u2019t just a result\u2014it was a testament to how hard this duo has trained over the past several years to make noise for themselves on the sand.<\/span><\/p>\n

This past summer, Mila Karatzios and Zoe Arsenault showed what it truly means to balance passion, dedication, and excellence. While training and competing with Team NB Indoor 17U, and attending the All Canadian U15 First Look Camp, they still found time to continue growing as a beach duo. Over the summer, they reached the podium at every single event they entered, earning silver at both VNB Tour stops in the 16U division and gold at Provincials in the 14U division for the second year in a row.Their season was capped with a bronze medal at Nationals in the U14 Tier 1 division\u2014an incredible leap forward after finishing fifth in Tier 2 the year prior. Congratulations to Mila and Zoe on an unforgettable season!<\/span><\/p>\n

We are proud to recognize Patti-Jo Cormier as our Volunteer of the Year. Patti-Jo is the Vice President of the Bathurst Volleyball Club and the driving force behind its revival after years of inactivity. In 2023, she took it upon herself to rebuild the club\u2014not for recognition, but to create opportunities for young athletes in her community. Growing from the ground up, the club has now grown into a thriving program with multiple age divisions, and plans to expand even further. Through her vision and perseverance, Patti-Jo has reignited Bathurst\u2019s proud volleyball tradition and created a welcoming, sustainable space for youth to grow and thrive.<\/span><\/p>\n

Her passion, dedication, and tireless work have not only rebuilt a club but have also rebuilt a community\u2019s connection to the sport we all love. For all of these reasons, we are honoured to recognize <\/span>Patti-Jo Cormier<\/span><\/i> as our <\/span>Volunteer of the Year<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

We proudly present the VNB Referee of the Year award to Baylee Stockford, recognizing her exceptional dedication, professionalism, and excellence in volleyball officiating across Canada. This past season, Baylee earned her National Badge certification (Level 4) at the U18 Volleyball Canada Nationals in Edmonton and officiated the Men\u2019s bronze medal match at the Canada Games in Newfoundland. A dedicated leader and visionary, James began his journey with Volleyball New Brunswick in 2005 as Executive Director, where he championed fundraising, membership growth, governance, and event management. With a passion for organizational and policy development, his tenure set a strong foundation for VNB\u2019s progress. After several years helping lead many provincial and national championships hosted in New Brunswick, James started assisting nationally. In 2012, he was appointed Competition Co-Director for Volleyball Canada\u2019s first festival-style national championship event featuring 670 teams under one roof in Toronto: a milestone achievement. That event set the foundation leading to what is today\u2019s Volleyball Canada nationals, now involving 1400+ teams in one facility each May. Over 18 years on the VNB Board, he lent his expertise which has played a pivotal role in shaping the future of volleyball in the province. On the national stage, James made a lasting impact through his service as President\u2019s Council Chair, National Championship Scheduling Chair, and Strategic Planning Committee Member for Volleyball Canada.\u00a0 Known as a kind, quiet and gentle individual, except when on top of a hitting box in practice, he positively impacted the lives of so many athletes in his countless years of coaching. Several of those athletes have gone onto coach, officiate, and administer volleyball themselves, thus furthering James\u2019 impact on this great sport. Known to always have a great inspirational quote to lift the group, no one gets up earlier each day and works harder to better everyone around him, than James.\u00a0 His dedication and hard work have left a lasting mark on the volleyball community, ensuring a bright future for the sport in New Brunswick and beyond.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The journey of the NB Canada Games Women\u2019s Volleyball Team in the summer of 2017 was nothing short of extraordinary. From the very beginning in the fall of 2016, the girls showed remarkable discipline and dedication, bonding as a team and setting the foundation for their incredible success. Under the guidance of an extremely strong coaching staff led by Monette, they remained calm and focused, tackling each game with determination and a \u201cone game at a time\u201d mindset. Their hard work and commitment lead to a historic bronze medal victory at the Canada Games in Winnipeg, MB, defeating Team Ontario in a thrilling five-set match\u2014NB\u2019s first and only medal in volleyball at the Games. The packed gym erupted in support, showcasing the respect and admiration they had earned. This exceptional group of athletes embodied organization, hard work, and high achievement, proving that dedication to a team plan and strong fundamentals are the keys to success on the national stage.<\/span><\/p>\n
