Each year, Volleyball New Brunswick honours our members through the Hall of Fame and annual awards. We host our annual award gala to recognize the outstanding contributions of Volleyball New Brunswick members.
Volleyball NB Hall of Fame was established in 1999 to celebrate outstanding achievements of our athletes, coaches, builders, officials, and teams from across our province. We want to honor those who have made a significant impact within our borders as a member of VNB. These individuals will embody the best of our sport by virtue of success, dedication, longevity, and sportsmanship.

Award Categories
MALE AND FEMALE ATHLETES OF THE YEAR
The VNB Male & Female Athletes of the Year are ideally graduating athletes who participates in our High Performance, Canada Cup, Summer Elite and Canada Games programs. These athletes display something special that seperates them from the others; whether that be athletic ability, passing, defending, scoring, blocking, serving, leadership, being a team player in a positive manner, or sportsmanship.
MALE AND FEMALE COACH OF THE YEAR
The Male and Female Coach of the Year are two coaches whose club and/or provincial teams have had significant improvement or success in the past year.
MALE AND FEMALE SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR
The goal of this award is to recognize athletes in our club system for on-court and off-court contributions to their team, such as, teamwork, team building, works hard, great attitude, inspiring acts of “sportspersonship”. The goal is to raise coach engagement in the nomination process and provides an opportunity for representation from our members who may not aspire to play at a high-performance level. We all have come across kids in our journeys who we affectionately say, “that kid is the greatest teammate” or “what an amazing kid.” Ideally, this award could be awarded to an athlete from our 15U, 14U or triple ball programs.
CLUB EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR
This award is set exclusively for accomplishments by a Club Executive member over a one-year period. This Club Executive has positive ideas, governance improvement, growth, a safe and fun club experience, attraction of new volunteers, more teams, grass roots inroads and/or leadership in safe sport.
OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR
To be chosen each year by Volleyball NB Officials Association (VNBOA)
AWARD OF DISTINCTION
This award is to recognize a member of VNB who has contributed to VNB in an extraordinary manner in such a way that they are set apart from others. This could be through support of VNB’s strategic plan, for example, if the focus is on growth, the main enabler in this is new teams/clubs. This award recognizes positive change and honours those who have supposted VNB.
IAN FOWLER VOLUNTEER AWARD
This award is presented for volunteer recognition to a member who has impacted volleyball in NB. in a very positive and impactful way in their community or beyond for three or more years. They have enhanced their vision by showing alignment with our strategic plan.
HALL OF FAME
Volleyball NB Hall of Fame (VNBHoF) was established in 1999 to celebrate outstanding achievements of our athletes, coaches, builders, officials, and teams from across our province. We want to honor those who have made a significant impact within our borders as a member of VNB. Ideally, we want to represent a grassroots approach and represent their ideals outside of our borders. These individuals will embody the best of our sport by virtue of success, dedication, longevity, and sportsmanship.

Carla Dickson & Jean Paul Demers
Carla Dickson, a volleyball icon from Miramichi will be celebrated with membership into the Volleyball NB Hall of Fame. Ms. Dickson had an outstanding career that began as a standout youth player, to being recruited and having a storied career at UNB. Finally, coming full circle and playing as a perennial all-star in Volleyball NB’s Senior circuit.
JP Demers, a standout multi-sport athlete from Wabash, NL. made his way to Fredericton as a young high school graduate, played one year as a varsity athlete on the UNB men’s volleyball team, coached by Sonny Philips and Perley Tozer. After graduating from UNB, Mr. Demers remained in Fredericton where, along with his wife Jennifer, he raised his family and had a long, distinguished career as an educator at École St. Anne. Over the past thirty-six years he has amassed an impressive resume officiating, mentoring, and teaching while serving VNB and Volleyball Canada.
